Musicians on YouTube! Part 1

Ever heard of Mystery Guitar Man? NicePeter? barelypolitical/The Key of Awesome? Well then you have never been on YouTube for the good stuff. These guys create amazing music on their own and do in such a fashion that makes it explode on the Internet. All of their videos are original and amazing. And there is so many more musicians out there on YouTube. For the next 8 Fridays I will be talking about YouTube Musicians and I will also post a link to my favorite video that they made. This week I will be talking about Mystery Guitar Man.

Mystery Guitar Man aka Joe Penna is a very popular Brazilian guitarist, animator, and filmmaker. He started out on YouTube in 2006 which was right around YouTube was starting to get big. His videos are funny and smart to me. They make music magical and inspires other YouTube to get their music out there and keep having fun doing it. As promised I found a good video that Mystery Guitar Man did back in February of 2010 which was the First video I saw of his and the reason I subscribed to him. I hope you enjoy it!

Musicians on YouTube! Part 3

Ever heard of barelypolitical/The Key of Awesome? DeStorm? Terabrite? Well then you have never been on YouTube for the good stuff. These guys create amazing music on their own and do in such a fashion that makes it explode on the Internet. All of their videos are original and amazing. And there is so many more musicians out there on YouTube. For the next 6 Fridays I will be talking about YouTube Musicians and I will also post a link to my favorite video that they made. This week I will be talking about The Key Of Awesome.

The Key Of Awesome is a parody music channel on Youtube and man are they funny. They started out as Barley Political back in 2007 with their video "I've Got a Crush on Obama" with the icon Obama Girl. It instantly became a huge internet hit. Since that video was released they have become the most popular show online with over 1 billion views. Then they branched out and started another channel called Barley Digital with deals with more pop culture and parodies. And this is where The Key Of Awesome came into the mix. As of right now they have 50 original parodies and over 162,980 subscribers. And that doesn't even account for their over 100 million video views. Trust me, you will love them as soon as you watch them.

The link for today was the very first video I saw from them and it is amazing if you saw The Dark Knight! (I mean come on who hasn't?)

TV show, hits or flops!

I've been trying to catch up and all the shows I missed this week so I wont be doing reviews today. There has been a lot of TV news that just surfaced in the past week. I'm hoping some of these news shows become a hit and the old stuff keep getting better. Alright, lets get into the news:
  • The Sons of Anarchy is set for another season. Hopefully it will be around for more the 5 seasons.
  • Fox is in talks about making a Zombieland TV show. In hopes to compete with The Walking Dead on AMC. Suppose to be like The Walking dead, but with some added humor.
  • The miniseries Band of Brothers and The Pacific is going to be released as a box set on November 8th. Will come in DVD and Blu-ray.
  • Fox is also pushing to do a Punisher TV show. You know the Marvel comics character that has had 3 movies including a remake. The character is getting a whole new makeover. "Frank Castle (aka The Punisher) as a detective with the New York City Police Department who takes to the streets in his off time, in search of justice as the vigilante known as The Punisher."
  • Speaking of The Walking Dead, AMC has announced that Season 3 of The Walking Dead is happening. Hopefully it will come out before next October.
  • Eddie Murphy has decided not to do a Beverly Hills Cop 4 and just do a Beverly Hills Cop TV show. Eddie will not be lead actor in the series. He will play Chief of Police and his son in the TV show will play the lead role.
That's all the TV news I have for today, feel free to leave a comment.

Rocksmith, haven't heard of it?

I bet you thought I was going to talk about Battlefield 3 today (Originally was but decided not to.) Instead i'm going to talk about Rocksmith. Only because I don't think anybody has heard of it. Rocksmith is for people who like to play video games and want to learn how to play guitar. Not a fake plastic Rockband/Guitar Hero guitar, a REAL guitar. You plug your Guitar right into your console and learn basically everything. You learn how to play real songs by Artists you have heard of. You play mini games to help challenge you to so you get everything you need, like scales and finger dexterity. For a guy like me its perfect, I have a guitar and I find it frustrating to learn how to play on my own. The game looks so fun and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

iOS 5 is pissing me off!

So, today I decided to install iOS 5 on my iPod Touch 4G after waiting to long for the Untethered Jailbreak. I got tired of wait so I decided to update. I backed up all of my jailbreak tweaks and downloaded the firmware. I synced my device to my computer and the problems started! Everything backed up perfectly and as I was starting to install the firmware my iTunes froze up like 5 times and the update failed. After a long frustrating fight with my mouse (I won by the way), I restarted iTunes many times and it finally updated.

Then comes the next problem. I tried syncing my iPod to iTunes and it kept doing wireless sync (which doesn't work when your on YouTube btw) and it kept saying that my device was full. It wasn't full before the sync and the firmware has gotten smaller so there is no reason it could have been full. So I decided to take some music off of it just so it had enough free space. It is till syncing now and it is almost halfway through the sync. Oh and did I mention that I started doing all this around 3 PM today! well its gonna take the whole night to sync and I thought I better post this while I had the chance.

Epic Movie Mondays

To start out this Blog I am going to post and talk a little bit about the Weekend Box Office Results:
  1. Paranormal Activity 3
  2. Real Steel
  3. Footloose (2011)
  4. The Three Musketeers (2011)
  5. The Ides of March
Seems like it was a good weekend for sequels and remakes at the theaters this weekend. I have only seen one movie that is in the top 5 and only plan to see 4 movies that are in the top 10. I thought Paranormal Activity 3  would be a really bad movie, but it seems to be doing good so far. I still don't plan on seeing it though. I Real Steel the weekend it came out (ya gotta love Hugh Jackman movies) and that was The last movie I have seen in a while. Now Footloose being a remake still keeps me away from it so I shouldn't really give my opinion on it (should have never been done in the first place). The Three Musketeers looked promising until I realized it was also a remake and I was unsure if I should go t see it. I have still decided not to got see it, but may if it goes to the Dollar Theaters. The Ides of March looked like a good movie, except it confused me when I watched the trailer. I didn't know what was going on and I couldn't tell who was blackmailing who.

Now, with that part over lets talk about upcoming movie news:
  • Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are getting back together...for a Biopic about Whitey Bulger. Only word right now is Ben Affleck is planning to direct.
  • For the Stephen King fans The Dark Tower Series adaption for TV and Movie is still in the works. I'm hoping for something good to come of it.
  • Captain America 2 is already getting a script and details. Its going to be mostly in the present.
  • The Screenwritter for Iron Man 3 is now working on Sherlock Holmes 3.
And thats all that mattered to me today. Sorry its up late.

Preorder Fridays

So last Friday I pre-ordered 2 albums from 2 of my favorite groups. I pre-ordered Mylo Xyloto from Coldplay and God's Not Dead from Newsboys. Mylo Xyloto will be the 5th album I own from Coldplay and God's Not Dead will be the 10th album I own from the Newsboys. I have got a sample of both and they both are really good albums. I really cant wait for Mylo Xyloto to come out,  because I pre-ordered it with the Vinyl and this will be the first Vinyl that I have ever bought. Good thing I have a Record player to play it on. Mylo Xyloto is due to come out October 24th and God's Not Dead is due to come out November 15th.

Scream! Its the Last Man Walking Dead!

I don't really watch too much TV, but this past week I watched 3 shows. I watched the season 2 premier of The Walking Dead, I saw the third episode of Tim Allen's new comedy on ABC called Last Man Standing, and I also watch The 2011 Scream Awards on SpikeTV.

As me being a big fan of The Walking Dead comics (I own comics 1-80) I loved the first season. The new season started out slow, but in a good way. It prepared you for what was coming ahead in the episode and also what’s coming ahead in the season. I don't want to give any Spoilers, except that not too many zombies were killed in the first episode. It left you at a cliff hanger and I can’t wait until the new episode this Sunday night.

If you liked Home Improvement, you will probably love Last Man Standing. Being Tim Allen's first TV Role since Home Improvement I was hoping for something that made me laugh. He plays a father in a house full of women that works for an Outdoors company that is like Bass Pro Shop. He was a traveling father working on his company catalog and they cancelled his catalog and moved him to online product description videos (which are very funny.) So now he is home more to give fatherly advice to people on the internet and take care of his grandson. The show got very high ratings and I really enjoyed it and laughed a lot. The next episode comes out this Tuesday at 8 PM and I will definitely be watching it.

And finally the 2011 Scream Awards. This was the first time I watched it and I definitely liked it. I didn't get a chance to vote online and only one won that I didn't want to win. They honored Robert Downey Jr. and Nicolas Cage and put inducted them into the Scream Hall Of Fame. It was a really good rewards show, though this was the first rewards show I have ever seen. Next year I will definitely vote and watch the rewards show next year.

A late Gaming Wednesday

In know, late post is late. Sorry about the late post. I got home from work last night and had no energy to do anything.

Anyways, lets get into what I wanted to talk about yesterday, Batman: Arkham City. I have seen tons of videos and walkthroughs on it (since I don't have the game yet) and it really looks amazing! The story line is amazing, gameplay is somehow better then in BatmanArkham Asylum (I never knew that was possible.) The soundtrack was so awesome and fit the game perfectly. The thing that I have heard bad about it is that if you didn't preorder the game or bought it the day it came out you can't play as Robin or Catwomen. :( Its a great game even if you haven't played the first one yet. If you haven't got the game and love Batman there is something wrong with you! Toys r us and Walmart are having sales on the game till the end of this week. So get it soon!

An Introduction is in order.

It seems that an Introduction is in order. Hello, My name is Joshua Vincent. I'm a college Student from Charlotte, NC. I came up with the idea for this Blog about 2 and a half months ago. I was going to do it as a web show on YouTube, but I don't have the equipment or the space to do what I want with it. So until then I will be on here. It took me a long time to decide what I want to blog about. Then it hit me on Sunday while I was talking to a buddy of mine about future and what I wanted to do. I decided that I wanted Blog about things involving Pop Culture and my opinion/views on it. I wanted to make breaking news that Newspaper talk a few days to print, websites take hours to post, and people never hear about because it never gets to them. I will post to this Blog Monday through Friday on my 5 favorite Pop Culture topics. The Schedule will be as follows:
  • Mondays aka Movie Mondays (Movies Based news)
  • Tuesdays aka Techy Tuesdays (Technology Based news)
  • Wednesday aka Gaming Wednesday (Gaming Based news)
  • Thursday aka Tele Thursdays (Television show Based news)
  • Fridays aka Music day (Still need a catchy name for that)
So starting tomorrow there will be a Blog posted. Keep and eye out for it and feel free to leave a comment.
