EA bashes Black Ops 2!

The Gaming news for the week:
  • The long awaited Portal 2 DLC is coming out this May. The only bad thing is it only comes out for Mac and PC. On May 8th, if you own Portal 2 on Mac or PC, you can create your own levels and share them with the world with the Perpetual Testing Initiative. I was hoping that they would release it onto the Xbox 360, but since there is no Steam platform on it I would have to live without it.
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 news:
    • Comes out for Xbox 360 and PS3 on November 13th, 2012.
    • Will be set 13 years in the future
    • Will be centered around a single solder that is kind of like Alex Mason in the first one
    • First Trailer has been release. Check it out below:

  • An Professional CG artist has started work one an animated short film based on the popular game Portal. The short film is titled Companionship and is about a tale of love, loss and cubes. Here are some images from the film:

    What do you think?
  • Microsoft and 343 Industries are working on a live action 5 part web series called Forward Unto Dawn. There has not been to much information released about this, but it will not just bee an advertisement campaign for Halo 4. Since 343 Industries put out their first bit of live action content, fans went crazy. Now they are getting what they asked for. The 5 episodes will tell the story of how Master Chief inspired a young cadet to become commander of the UNSC Infinity. It will tie into the events of Halo 4 and telling the origins of how the war started between humans and The Covenant. They plan to release the episodes in the weeks leading up to the release of Halo 4 on Machinima and Halo Waypoint.
  • Angry Birds Space is the fastest growing mobile game of all time. Its has been downloaded 50 Million times in its first 35 days. That is a lot of data being downloaded. Rovio should be proud with them selves and continue to make high quality content.
  • DICE is working on expansions and DLCs to keep Battlefield 3 players happy for another 12 to 18 months. The first DLC is called Close Quarters and adds four new small maps, a new game mode and several new weapons. The Armored Kill DLC will add big maps and new vehicles and will come out this fall. The End Game DLC comes out in the winter, between late 2012 and early 2013, with yet to be announced content.
  • Rumor: Half-Life 3 announcement might be coming from this years E3.

8-bit Google Maps for NES?!

The Video Game news for the week:
  • Rumor: The PS4 will be called Orbis and will be out Holiday season of 2013. Again like the PS3, Orbis will not be backwards compatible.

  • Assassin's Creed 3 news:
    • Ubisoft considered having a female assassin in Assassin's Creed 3, but in the end chose a male one.
    • Ubisoft says that they are developing the PC version to be playable with a controller.
    • The game will have a completely revamped control Scheme.
    • Ubisoft hired a Native American consultant so that they could make sure the game was historically accurate.
    • The game will also feature more Desmond Miles then any other Assassin's Creed game.
  • Rumor: The new Xbox that will be released late 2013 might be the Xbox Lite. Its will be the same Xbox experience, but wont be a next generation console. It will cost about $100 and is suppose to hold gamers over until Microsoft is ready to release the next generation of the Xbox.

  • 343 Industries teases a multiplayer map for Halo 4 with some concept art. Check it out below:

  • If you didn't happen to use Google Maps on April 1st, you missed something pretty cool. Google took Google Maps and converted it into an 8-bit version. It was a funny flash back and made me laugh. Check out the commercial for it:

  • Rumor: Apple might be working on a physical controller for for their iOS devices. This might happen due to Apple wants more hardcore gamers for their devices. Since the Apple stills holds the ownership of the of the #1 mobile gaming device. They also might be working on their own gaming console.
  • There is video out there of Kinect Star Wars where Han Solo dances to a song called Han Solo. I watched and my whole body ached. It like trying to watch the Star Wars prequels with out wanting to hate George Lucas. If you really want to see it, you can find it on the internet some where.

  • If you havent heard about Mari0 then you havent been on the internet in the last year. Its a crossover of Super Mario Brothers and Portal. If it doesn't sound cool, here is some test gameplay footage of single player mode that you will like.

Head over to this link to download the free game: Mari0

Jonathan Coulton: Geek you can believe in!

On Fridays I will be going to my iTunes and turning on shuffle and who ever is the artist of the song that plays will be the focus for the blog.

This weeks post is going to be about: Jonathan Coulton
Jonathan Coulton is the nerd we all want to be. He is a Computer Programmer turned Singer/Songwriter. The first song I have heard by him was Still Alive, which happened to be the song played during the credits of a popular puzzle based video game (Portal, if you didn't know that.) My favorite songs by him are Ikea, Millionaire Girlfriend, Code Monkey, Mr. Fancy Pants, and Obviously Still Alive.

He has a unique sound and it defiantly is a sound that I like. I started playing Portal back in summer of 2009 and didn't really try and beat it until later that year. So naturally after I beat the game the credits rolled and I liked the song which then made me buy the Orange Box soundtrack. Which had his version and the Portal version of the song on it. Not to long after that I got introduced to more of his songs like Code Monkey and Ikea. So naturally I bought every song by I could get my hands on.

And that is how my iTunes found him while it was on Shuffle!

Jonathan Coulton?
